tax preparation workshop - spring 2019

Tax season can be an anxiety-ridden time for anyone, and is especially difficult when you’re running a small business or on your own earning self-employment income. On top of knowing where to gather all the various types of tax documents, there are countless rules and complications around what’s considered taxable and/or deductible. Even if you have someone prepare your taxes for you, are you comfortable with what’s being reported on your tax return and are you sure you’re maximizing your deductions? In order to ease the anxiety that comes with tax season and feel in control of the tax preparation process, you’ll want to educate yourself on the tax complexities related to your specific business.

Join me for a 2-part tax preparation workshop tailored for creative small business owners, where I’ll guide you through everything you need to know in order to successfully get your taxes filed for this year (Part I). There will also be an additional follow-up working session (Part II) for those of you who intend to file on your own and have further questions. More than just guiding you through the current tax season, the knowledge and tools you’ll gain from this workshop should benefit you for many tax seasons to come. First tax tip: The workshop registration fee is an investment in yourself as a small business owner, and it’s fully tax deductible!

WORKSHOP - Part I

Registration: $65 / attendee

Date: Saturday February 16, 2019
Time: 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Location: Kinfolk Inspired Space
2090 Warm Springs Ct. STE #280
Fremont, CA 94539

Part I of the workshop will be an in-depth informative session where I’ll walk you through everything you need to know about collecting your tax data. I’ll provide you with useful checklists and worksheets to get you organized and confident that you’re taking advantage of available deductions wherever possible. When you complete this session you’ll have the tools to be able to either file your taxes on your own using an online tax preparation program, or hand off everything to a tax preparer, and feel comfortable that you’re not missing out on anything. If you want to take charge of your income tax filings this year instead of wondering whether you’re “doing it right”, this workshop is for you!

Who this is for:

  • Small business owners and anyone that earns self-employment income, including freelancers and consultants

  • If you plan to DIY your taxes using a self preparation software like TurboTax,

OR you have someone to prepare your taxes, but want to make sure you’re maximizing your tax deductions and not paying more taxes than necessary

Checklists and tools you’ll receive:

  • Comprehensive checklist of tax documents to gather

  • List of tax deductions relevant to the creative industry

  • Worksheets on how to compile an income/expense summary for tax preparation

  • Excel calculators for your home office and other mixed-use property deductions (cell phone, car, etc.)

WORKSHOP - Part II

Registration: $85 / attendee

Date: Saturday March 2, 2019
Time: 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm
Location: Kinfolk Inspired Space
2090 Warm Springs Ct. STE #280
Fremont, CA 94539

Part II of the workshop will be a followup working session where you can raise any specific questions or issues you’ve encountered during your tax collection/filing processes. In addition to getting your questions answered, you can bring in the tax data you’ve collected and use this session to prepare your taxes (using an online tax preparation software like TurboTax) while getting real-time support from a tax professional (me!). You don’t need to file your taxes alone — let’s do this together!

Who This is For:

  • Business owners operating as a sole proprietor or single member LLC (“Schedule C” tax filers)
Note: If you are operating as a partnership or multi-member LLC, please contact me prior to registration so we can assess whether Part II of the workshop is suitable for you based on your business structure

  • You’ve completed Tax Workshop - Part I

  • You have additional questions on how to gather and organize your tax documents

  • You’d like real-time support from a tax professional while filing your taxes

Important details:

  • Part I is an in-depth informational session about how to gather and organize your tax data using my worksheets and calculators. You’ll need to dedicate time to gather the applicable tax data on your own time.

  • Part II is a working session for those intending to file their own taxes and have additional questions for me. I’ll be there to answer your questions and support you, but won’t be filing your taxes for you. Part II is available at an additional cost and is only available for those that have attended Part I.

  • You may register for the 2-part workshop as a package, or register for Part II as a separate workshop after you’ve completed Part I.

  • Cost of tax preparation software is not included in cost of workshop registration.

  • While my 2-part workshop is designed to provide you with the tools and resources to file your taxes, completing the workshop does not guarantee that you can finish filing your tax returns — this will be highly dependent on the complexity of your business and how much effort you put in to gathering the appropriate data.
